“She seems so cool, so focused, so quiet, yet her eyes remain fixed upon the horizon. You think you know all there is to know about her immediately upon meeting her, but everything you think you know is wrong. Passion flows through her like a river of blood. She only looked away for a moment, and the mask slipped, and you fell. All your tomorrows start here.”
~Neil Gaiman, Fragile Things
My work delves into the contemporary and past relationship of the black & white woman in America. It seeks to delve into their similarities not the differences that society has cast upon them for hundreds of years. I explore what it means to be a woman, a woman of color maneuvering through a society that has yet to fully see us.
Through my performance art, art installations, short films, and plays I tell stories. A long family tradition, my ability to infuse performance art with music, storytelling, and history allows for me to dig deeper into the history and the nowness of what affects us today as a culture and society. I hope to provide a completely refreshing and innovative way to how we view performance art. I am aware of the power of collaboration and working in solitude. I need both. My goal is to always be aware of the importance of mixing performance art, visual art, theatre, dance, and music.
